Key Stages of the Palm Oil Primary Extraction Process
1️⃣ Fresh Palm Bunch Processing – Fresh palm fruit bunches are delivered to the mill within 24 hours of harvesting to prevent free fatty acid (FFA) increase.
2️⃣ Sterilization & Cooking – The palm fruit bunches are steamed at 150°C for 2 hours, effectively sterilizing them and softening the stalks for easier processing.
3️⃣ Fruit Stripping – Using a fruit stripping machine, the palm fruits are separated from the bunch stalks. The empty stalks are then repurposed as fertilizer, while the fruits are stored in silos for further processing.
4️⃣ Oil Pressing – A screw oil press extracts the crude palm oil (CPO). The pressed cake, which still contains palm kernels, is discharged from the front end, while the liquid portion flows out from the bottom. After filtration, the crude oil is sent to a disc centrifuge for separation, yielding high-quality crude palm oil.
5️⃣ Palm Kernel Oil Extraction – The pressed cake from step 4 undergoes further processing to extract palm kernel oil:
✅ The fiber from the pressed fruit is processed into fiberboard and paper products.
✅ The palm kernels are transported by air to a crusher, which cracks the shells and separates the kernels. The shells are used as fuel.
✅ The palm kernels are then pressed using an oil press, filtered, and separated to obtain crude palm kernel oil.
