Global Demand for Rice Bran Oil Rises as Processing Technology Upgrades Accelerate

Date:Nov 26th, 2025
As rice-producing countries continue to harvest two or even three seasons a year, the amount of rice bran generated worldwide has grown substantially. Yet in many regions, rice bran is still treated as agricultural waste—burned, discarded, or left piled outdoors—creating safety risks and missing an important economic opportunity.

In recent years, however, market awareness of rice bran oil, recognized by the World Health Organization as one of the top three healthy edible oils, has continued to rise. With an oil content of 16%–20% and a steadily increasing market price, more processing companies have begun exploring efficient ways to recover value from this once-overlooked by-product.

 Technology Upgrades Drive New Investment

According to the engineering team of Zhengzhou Dingsheng Machine Manufacturing, global inquiries for complete rice bran oil extraction plants have increased noticeably. “Many clients used to treat rice bran as waste,” explained a project manager, “but now they understand its commercial value and are seeking modern extraction solutions.”

Dingsheng provides turnkey projects ranging from 10 to 6000 TPD, and most of the new requests involve upgrading old workshops or building fully automated extraction lines from scratch.

Efficient Processing Starts with Proper Pretreatment

For rice bran oil to retain quality and achieve higher yield, pretreatment is essential. This typically includes:

 Cleaning to remove impurities
Conditioning to stabilize moisture and temperature
Puffing (extrusion) to open the cell structure and improve extraction efficiency

Among these steps, puffing has become a major focus for investors. Dingsheng’s technical specialists note that modern puffing equipment can significantly increase oil yield and reduce solvent consumption in the later extraction stage.

Solvent Extraction and Refining Technology Becoming Standard

After pretreatment, rice bran enters a solvent extraction system similar to those used in other vegetable oils. This includes the extractor, desolventizer-toaster, stripping tower, and solvent recovery system.
Customers who previously relied on simple pressing processes are increasingly turning to extraction because of the higher oil recovery rate.

The final stages—refining and dewaxing—play a crucial role in ensuring that the finished oil meets international edible oil standards. Since rice bran oil contains higher wax content compared with other oils, dewaxing technology has become a key requirement, particularly for customers exporting to colder regions.

More Investors Turning to Turnkey Solutions

With decades of technical experience and overseas project delivery, Zhengzhou Dingsheng Machine Manufacturing continues to support clients in Asia, Africa, South America, and the Middle East.
The company reports that most new customers now prefer turnkey services, including layout design, equipment manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and operator training.

As global demand for healthy edible oils grows, industry analysts predict that rice bran oil processing will remain a strong investment field. Companies equipped with modern extraction and refinery technology are expected to play a central role in helping rice-producing regions turn agricultural by-products into valuable commercial resources.
