Coconut oil is widely used in food processing, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, soap manufacturing, biodiesel, and chemical industries. Depending on the raw materials and final product requirements, the production line can produce crude coconut oil, refined coconut oil, or virgin coconut oil (VCO).

Coconut Oil Processing Flow
There are generally two methods for producing Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO):

Wet Process:

Fresh Coconut→ Dehusking→ Paring→ Washing & Bleaching→ Sterilization→ Grinding→ Coconut Meat Pressing→ Vibrating Filtration→ Cold Pressing / Coconut Milk Extraction→ Separation / Fermentation / Centrifugation→ Virgin Coconut Oil Storage

Dry Process (Oil Processing):
Copra / Dried Coconut→ Dehusking→ Paring→ Washing & Bleaching→ Sterilization→ Grinding→ Continuous Drying→ Cold Pressing→ Crude Oil Filtration→ Oil Storage

Pretreatment Process Description

1. Dehusking: The outer coconut husk can be removed manually or by using a coconut dehusking machine.

2. Shelling: A shelling machine is used to remove the hard coconut shell without damaging the coconut meat.

3. Paring: The brown outer skin of the coconut meat is removed using a paring machine.

4. Washing & Bleaching: The pared coconut meat is washed in hot water for several minutes to improve cleanliness and appearance.

5. Sterilization: The cleaned coconut meat is sterilized to ensure hygienic processing conditions.

6. Coconut Meat Grinding: The pretreated coconut meat is ground into fine particles to improve juice extraction efficiency.

7. Coconut Milk Extraction: The ground coconut material is fed into a juice extractor or twin-screw press machine to extract coconut milk. The extracted coconut milk is collected and filtered to remove solid impurities. The pressed residue can be dried to produce desiccated coconut.

8. Filtration & Centrifugation: A vibrating filter removes larger particles from the coconut milk. A centrifuge is then used to separate the oil and skimmed milk, as coconut milk is naturally an oil-in-water emulsion. Finally, a tubular filter (microfilter) further removes fine impurities to obtain pure virgin coconut oil.
